Rogers Stadium Posts New Sustainability Milestones as Earth Week Spotlight Grows

Live Nation Canada is marking Earth Week with new sustainability progress at Rogers Stadium, highlighting work aimed at cutting waste, reducing single-use plastics and lowering operational emissions. The company says the gains at Rogers Stadium are part of its broader Green Nation commitment to shrink the environmental footprint of live events. The most immediate benchmark: a 24/7 sorting program helped divert 65% of waste from landfill, with a target of 70% for the 2026 season.
Waste diversion leads the push at Rogers Stadium
The biggest operational change has come through waste handling. Live Nation Canada says a dedicated sorting team, working around the clock with Impact Cleaning, separated materials into multiple streams instead of sending them through a single disposal path. That effort kept 65% of waste out of landfill last season at Rogers Stadium.
The company says it is now aiming higher, with a goal of reaching 70% diversion for the 2026 season. The venue’s waste-reduction work is being carried out with partners across the site, including Liberty Oak View Group, which oversees food and beverage service and helps implement sustainable practices.
Rogers Stadium cuts plastic use and expands reuse
Live Nation Canada says it has also made major progress in replacing single-use plastics. Compostable utensils and food service ware, paper cups and canned water have been introduced across the venue, while plant-based cups helped avoid more than 550, 000 plastic water bottles. Draft Top can cutters also reduced the need for more than 320, 000 additional cups.
Other steps widened the venue’s reuse and recycling footprint. Go Zero enabled specialty recycling for 1, 800 pounds of typically non-recyclable items. A reusable cup program with Muuse during four Coldplay concerts returned more than 114, 000 cups to circulation, diverting 7, 100 pounds of waste and avoiding nearly 14, 000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. Fully compostable ponchos from GreenGear were also introduced to reduce plastic waste during rainy events.
Water stations and fuel changes add to the effort
More than 30 refillable water stations, supported by Event Water Solutions, Oland and Brita, helped save an estimated 650, 000 single-use plastic bottles at Rogers Stadium. Live Nation Canada also says the venue is transitioning to sustainable hydrogenated vegetable oil fuel, known as HVO, as part of an effort to lower greenhouse gas emissions from operations.
These measures sit under Green Nation, Live Nation’s global sustainability platform focused on reducing the environmental impact of live events. For Rogers Stadium, the changes reflect a mix of operational adjustments, vendor partnerships and fan-facing programs designed to reduce waste at scale.
What comes next for Rogers Stadium
Live Nation Canada says it will keep building on the Rogers Stadium initiatives as it works toward the 2026 diversion target and continues to reduce the venue’s environmental footprint. The company’s next phase will likely center on whether the current waste, plastic-reduction and refill systems can hold their gains as more events are added under the Rogers Stadium banner.
For now, the Earth Week message is clear: Rogers Stadium is being used as a live test case for how a major concert venue can push waste lower, reuse higher and keep the sustainability pace moving under the Rogers Stadium plan.
