Glenn Robbins to lead primetime roast as Carrie Bickmore returns to TV

glenn robbins is back in prime time next week, with Carrie Bickmore set as the first confirmed guest on Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention. The new Seven satirical series will put Bickmore under the spotlight in a staged “intervention” built around comedy, family, friends and career flashpoints. The episode is designed to open the door on the moments she would rather forget, while keeping the tone light.

First up in the hot seat

The series centers on Glenn Robbins and Mick Molloy inviting a well-known personality to face a playful public roasting in front of an assembled audience. In the Bickmore episode, radio personality Kate Langbroek appears as co-host and is set to confront her friend with some home truths. A promo for the show also features Bickmore’s 18-year-old son Ollie, who jokes that her social media posts leave him embarrassed.

Bickmore’s return to prime time comes four years after she stepped away from her long-running role as host of Ten’s now-defunct The Project. She was also nominated this year for Australian of the Year for her work with the Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer charity. For Seven, the launch of Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention gives glenn robbins another high-profile platform built around his long-running comic partnership with Mick Molloy.

What Glenn Robbins and Mick Molloy are promising

An official release says each episode will bring together the celebrity’s closest friends, family and colleagues to revisit highs, lows and the moments they would rather forget, creating what it describes as a revealing and entertaining look at their life and career. The series is produced by Molloy Boy Productions, with Mick Molloy, Richard Molloy and Greg Sitch serving as executive producers.

The guest list beyond Bickmore is also being built around familiar names, with Tommy Little, Sam Pang, Dr Chris Brown, Dave Hughes and Guy Sebastian all set to take part.

How the show came together

The pairing of glenn robbins and Mick Molloy is rooted in a long friendship that has stretched across decades. One account of their partnership traces the connection back to 1989, when Robbins was on The Comedy Company and Molloy had begun radio work at Fox FM. Their collaboration has continued across radio and screen, including work together on BoyTown and a memorable Kath & Kim appearance involving Gary Poole and Kel.

The new format grew out of earlier discussions between the two, including an idea that Robbins says involved relationship help rather than comedy roasting. That concept evolved into the intervention-style show that is now going to air.

What happens next

With Carrie Bickmore first in line, the launch episode will set the tone for glenn robbins and Molloy’s new primetime experiment. The next question is whether the show’s mix of personal stories, celebrity cameos and blunt comic jabs lands with viewers in the way its creators intend. For now, the network has made one thing clear: Glenn & Mick’s Celebrity Intervention is arriving with Bickmore at the center and glenn robbins front and center again.
