EA Is Ending Support for Battlefield Hardline on PS4 and Xbox One

Electronic Arts will end console support for battlefield hardline, removing the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions from digital storefronts on May 22 (ET) and closing online services on June 22 (ET). Owners will retain access to single-player content on those consoles, while the PC version remains available with online services intact. The move leaves a legacy title from Visceral Games limited to single-player on last-generation consoles.

Battlefield Hardline delisting and shutdown timeline

EA has set two firm dates: the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be delisted from console digital storefronts on May 22 (ET), and online multiplayer services for those editions will end on June 22 (ET). A post from the Battlefield Comms account stated: “On Friday, May 22nd, Battlefield Hardline on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be removed from digital storefronts, and you will no longer be able to purchase it and all extra related content, such as DLC. ” The same account added: “Online services on these platforms will end on Monday, June 22nd. While Hardline will no longer support online functionality on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, players who own the game will still be able to play the single-player component. “

The post also made clear the change does not affect the PC edition: “Please note: Today’s update does not impact PC. Battlefield Hardline on PC will remain available, including online services. ” That preserves multiplayer access for PC players while consoles lose matchmaking and online modes after the June shutdown (ET).

Immediate reactions from the developers and publisher

Battlefield Comms, the franchise’s official communications account, provided the removal and shutdown dates and the note on PC availability. Electronic Arts directed readers to an FAQ that lists common reasons publishers end online support, including declining player bases. The statement and referenced FAQ frame the delisting and service-ending actions as part of standard lifecycle management for older titles.

Background: where this title stands

battlefield hardline launched in March 2015 as a departure from the franchise’s military roots, focusing on a cops-versus-robbers theme. The game was developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. For console owners who already have the game, the single-player campaign remains playable after the June shutdown; for prospective buyers on PS4 and Xbox One, the title will no longer be for sale after the May 22 (ET) delisting.

On PC, the title will remain for purchase and continue to host online services, preserving the multiplayer experience on that platform for the foreseeable future.

What’s next

Expect EA to update its FAQ and any support pages with purchase and redownload instructions for console owners in the coming days (ET). Observers and players will be watching how long Battlefield Hardline’s PC online services persist and whether EA sets further end-of-life milestones for other legacy releases. For PS4 and Xbox One players, the immediate runway runs through June 22 (ET), after which only offline single-player will remain available for those who already own the game.

battlefield hardline’s console sunset closes a chapter for the Visceral-developed entry while leaving the PC ecosystem intact, and EA’s next public updates should clarify any remaining questions on ownership, redownloads, and archived content access (ET).
