The shift comes after a cold spell Tuesday, and it is being felt from the south to the east of the province under a generous sun. The most noticeable change is expected Thursday, when temperatures are projected to climb well above freezing in several areas.
Sunshine pushes across much of the province
In southern Quebec, the sun is expected to dominate first, with temperatures reaching 6 C before climbing again into double digits on Thursday. In the central part of the province, sunny conditions are also forecast, though some clouds may move in over the Capitale-Nationale and farther north, including the Saguenay.
In western Quebec, clouds are set to arrive after a stretch of sunshine, with temperatures around 3 C. Environment Canada also expects generous sun in eastern Quebec, followed by a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures slightly above freezing.
By Thursday, the mild stretch should broaden further, with temperatures of 11 C to 15 C forecast in the south and center of the province. That day is expected to bring a mix of sun and clouds in most regions, while a few showers are possible in Abitibi and the Saguenay.
Officials point to a fast change in pattern
Environment Canada’s forecast points to a quick transition from Tuesday’s chill to a much more comfortable stretch by midweek. The federal agency’s outlook shows the cold daytime negatives ending quickly, replaced by conditions that feel closer to spring across much of the province.
“After a good shot of cold on Tuesday, we have good news: winter weather seems finally behind us for the south of the province, ” said Dominic Morin, meteorologist at Environment Canada. He added that the province will still sit between two air masses over the next two weeks, with cold air to the north and milder air to the south.
What the next few days could bring
That setup means the warmup will not arrive in a straight line. The forecast points to a rise in temperatures Thursday, followed by another drop heading into the weekend. Rather than a prolonged warm spell, the outlook suggests small swings above and below seasonal norms.
Still, the return to temperatures near the normal level for this time of year, around 10 C in southern Quebec, should be welcome for many after the recent froid. The next development to watch is whether Thursday’s milder air holds long enough to establish a steadier spring pattern, even as the province remains caught between competing air masses. For now, the message is clear: the sharp froid is fading, and warmer days are taking its place.
