The poll surveyed 790 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3. 9 percentage points. John Bonifaz, who ran the survey for Celinda Lake’s firm, called the result “an unprecedented result this early in a presidential term. ”
The findings show impeachment backing crossing party lines, including one of every seven Republicans. The survey also found a strong split in job approval: 5% approval and 92% disapproval among Democrats, 81% approval and 16% disapproval among Republicans, and 34% approval versus 56% disapproval among independents. The survey’s backers said voters were asked about Trump’s handling of Iran and what they described as the unleashing of violent ICE agents in cities.

The public pressure comes while Trump’s first and second impeachment history remains part of the political backdrop. The House impeached him twice during and after his first term, but the Senate did not convict him either time. His second impeachment, tied to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, won 57 Senate votes but still fell short of the two-thirds required for conviction.
Bonifaz said the current moment differs from the run-up to Richard Nixon’s downfall, when congressional investigations and hearings built the case before public opinion shifted. In this case, he said, there was no similar preparation. The contrast matters because impeachment still requires a House majority, and conviction would require a two-thirds Senate vote.

Bonifaz said, “This poll confirms what we are seeing across the country: the American people understand that Donald Trump poses a direct threat to our Constitution and to the rule of law and must be impeached and removed from public office. ” He also said the result is especially striking because it comes so early in the term.
The survey was commissioned by two groups opposing Trump’s war on Iran and other policies. One of them lists 27 grounds for impeachment, while the poll itself focused on two reasons: Trump’s Iran policy and what the groups called his use of federal immigration agents against cities.
In the same period, Trump made remarks about Iran that the survey organizers said likely influenced opinion. The polling results, they argued, reflect growing demand for constitutional accountability, even if Congress has not yet moved.

For now, the numbers show momentum in public opinion, not a finished legislative path. The House has not reached the votes needed, and the Senate remains far from the threshold for conviction.
