The latest statement marks a grim escalation from the company’s February update, when five of the workers were still unaccounted for. In the current update, the number of confirmed deaths has risen sharply, and the search for the missing worker remains open.

Mexico context around the Concordia site

The workers were abducted in January from a site in Sinaloa state, an area described in the context as plagued by cartel-related violence. Federal at the time that none of the workers were Canadian nationals.

The company’s earlier statement said remote work continued while on-site work at the site was suspended after the abduction. It also said it remained committed to responsibly developing the Panuco district over the long term and maintaining its investment in the community of Concordia.
