Ipl Points Table Update: RCB Move Top After April 5 Double-Header

The ipl points table shifted after the second double-header of the season on April 5, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru rising to the top and Lucknow Super Giants moving up to seventh. Bengaluru beat Chennai Super Kings by 43 runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, while Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in Hyderabad. The latest ipl points table now reflects both results, with Chennai staying at the foot of the standings.

RCB’s big win changes the picture

Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted 250-3 and then restricted Chennai Super Kings, whose chase never fully recovered after slipping to 30-3. Tim David’s unbeaten 70 off 25 balls and Rajat Patidar’s 48 not out off 19 powered Bengaluru’s surge, while Devdutt Padikkal added 50 off 29. The margin was decisive enough to push Bengaluru to the top of the ipl points table on net run rate.

Chennai’s reply included Sarfaraz Khan’s 50 off 25, but the target was always out of reach after the early collapse. The result left Chennai at the bottom of the table, a position that sharply contrasts with Bengaluru’s rise after one of the season’s most one-sided matches so far.

Lucknow climb after chasing 157 in Hyderabad

At Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants chased down 156-9 with Rishabh Pant finishing unbeaten on 68 off 50. Mohammed Shami set up the win with 2-9 in four overs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 56 off 33 and Heinrich Klaasen’s 116-run stand with him gave Sunrisers Hyderabad some resistance after a shaky start. Lucknow’s victory moved them one spot up to seventh, above Gujarat Titans.

The match briefly tested the chase, with Sunrisers recovering from 11-3 and 26-4 before settling at a competitive total. Lucknow’s batters kept control through the innings, and Pant’s unbeaten effort ensured the chase was completed in the final over.

What the updated standings show

The immediate effect is clear: Bengaluru are now on top thanks to a superior net run rate, while Lucknow have made an early climb after their second win. Chennai remain last after the heavy defeat, and the table has already begun to stretch after just the second double-header of the season.

On April 5, the ipl points table was shaped by both results in fast-moving fashion, with one team gaining on margin and another gaining ground through a successful chase. That sets up the next round of fixtures as another early test of who can hold position, recover quickly, and keep pace when the ipl points table tightens again.
