Dontayvion Wicks gives the Eagles another receiver option before the draft

The Philadelphia Eagles are adding dontayvion wicks to a position of need just as the draft approaches, a move that brings another layer of depth to a wide receiver room still taking shape in Philadelphia.

What did the Eagles give up for Dontayvion Wicks?

The deal sends a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers. Wicks is also signing a one-year, $12. 5 million extension with Philadelphia that will begin in the 2027 season.

The 24-year-old arrives after a season that was quieter than the rest of his short career. In 14 games, he finished with 30 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns. Over three seasons in Green Bay, dontayvion wicks totaled 108 catches for 1, 328 yards and 11 touchdowns in 46 games.

Why does this move matter now?

The timing matters as much as the player. With the draft about two weeks away, Philadelphia is adding insurance behind A. J. Brown and Devonta Smith while also continuing to remake the rest of the receiving group. The Eagles have already added Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Elijah Moore since free agency opened in early March, while Jahan Dotson moved on to the Atlanta Falcons.

That leaves Philadelphia with more options, but not necessarily less uncertainty. Brown has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason, and that conversation could intensify as the draft gets closer. The team’s receiver room now has more names, yet the long-term shape of the group still feels unsettled.

How is Green Bay changing around him?

For Green Bay, the trade is part of a broader reshaping of its receiver room. The Packers are building around Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed and Christian Watson, and Wicks becomes one of the clearer departures from that mix. Romeo Doubs has already left for New England on a four-year deal, making this another notable subtraction.

For both teams, the move is about managing what comes next. Philadelphia gets a player who can step into a crowded but fluid depth chart, while Green Bay continues to shift toward a different version of its passing game. In that sense, dontayvion wicks is not just a trade piece. He is also a sign of how quickly receiver rooms can change before a draft changes them again.

And that is the image that lingers: a receiver changing colors on the eve of roster season, with the Eagles hoping the added depth holds and the Packers trusting the next version of their room can fill the gap.
