The Bachelor Returns to ABC in 2027, With Care and a Second Chance

In the quiet after a franchise shake-up, the bachelor is being framed less as a comeback story than a test of whether a long-running format can still earn trust. Disney reality chief Rob Mills says ABC is preparing to bring the series back in 2027, and he is openly promising a more thoughtful approach after a difficult 18 months.

Why is The Bachelor coming back in 2027?

Mills says the franchise has gone through hard times, but not through the kind of collapse that would end it. He described The Bachelor as “almost a perfect format” with a fan base that still cares deeply, even after allegations of a toxic workplace, the departure of its top showrunners, and the shelving of an entire Bachelorette season tied to Taylor Frankie Paul.

ABC already renewed the series for Season 30 in June 2025, with Bachelor in Paradise’s Scott Teti set as showrunner. The plan now is for the next cycle to air in 2027, giving the network time to reset the franchise’s direction.

What changed after Taylor Frankie Paul’s season was shelved?

The biggest disruption came when ABC pulled the already-filmed Bachelorette season built around Paul. The decision followed a damning video connected to her 2023 domestic violence arrest and new claims involving alleged domestic incidents with Dakota Mortensen. The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office later declined to file charges tied to those newer claims.

Mills said the immediate concern was human, not corporate. “The day all of that stuff happened, really our first sort of concern was really for Taylor and the family and everyone involved in that, it was really more on a human level, ” he said. He added that the season is now being handled “day by day, ” and that nothing has been decided about whether it will ever air on ABC or Hulu.

How is ABC thinking about the franchise now?

Mills says the network is treating the return as a chance to rebuild carefully rather than chase noise. He said The Bachelor will come back “with a lot of thoughtfulness and care, ” and that better days are ahead. He also said the franchise remains important to ABC even as it moves through “growing pains. ”

That approach appears to be broader than one title. Mills said the network will lean into whatever version of the franchise makes sense at the time, whether that means more the bachelor, Golden Bachelor, or another Bachelorette cycle later on. He also placed the show in the same conversation as other long-running formats that have recovered with age.

Can the franchise still find an audience again?

Mills is betting on resilience. He said he would like the bachelor to sit alongside shows such as Dancing With the Stars and American Idol, which have both experienced renewed interest in middle age. That comparison matters because it suggests ABC sees the franchise not as a fading asset, but as one that could still rebound if it is handled with care.

Warner Horizon produces The Bachelor and its spinoffs, and Mills said he has not had conversations with Warner Bros. Television about moving the shelved season elsewhere. For now, the network’s message is narrow but clear: the franchise is still alive, the 2027 return is real, and the next chapter will be shaped by caution as much as ambition.

In that sense, the empty space left by the shelved season becomes part of the story. The lights may come back on for the bachelor in 2027, but ABC is making clear that the bigger question is not just when the show returns. It is whether viewers will recognize a franchise that has decided it cannot afford to move quickly again.
