Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse Footage Reveals Miles Morales Pick-Up After Cliffhanger at CinemaCon

Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse returned to the spotlight at CinemaCon on Monday night with new footage and a clear promise: the story picks up right where the last film left off. Sony’s presentation showed Miles Morales still trapped after the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, with the next chapter framed as the trilogy’s emotional finish. The film is set for release on June 18, 2027.

New footage picks up in the middle of Miles’ crisis

The footage shown at CinemaCon opened with Miles tied up and trying to talk his way to freedom. He is then confronted by another version of himself, who also goes by Miles Morales and tells him he can call him “The Prowler. ”

The scene centers on confusion, tension, and a violent collision between the two versions of Miles as they argue over identity, even down to the way “Morales” is pronounced. In the clip, the original Miles warns that he does not want to hurt his captors, then electricity surges through his hands and he breaks free.

Sony also showed a supercut of footage from across the film, featuring multiple animation styles and action both inside and outside Miles’ struggle with himself. The material suggested a large-scale story built around time, space, and identity, while keeping the focus on the teenage hero’s fight to get home.

Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse and the return of the core team

Writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller appeared on stage with directors Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti. Miller called the film “the most emotional Spider-Verse film we have ever made, ” while Lord described it as the “most spectacular. ”

Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales, with Hailee Steinfeld back as Gwen Stacy. Brian Tyree Henry also returns as the voice of Miles’ dad, Jeffrey David, and said the installment is “even more epic than the last … get your hankies ready. ”

The new film is written by Lord, Miller, and David Callaham. It is directed by Persichetti and Thompson, with Lord and Miller also producing alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh.

What the CinemaCon preview says about the next chapter

The preview made clear that Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse is following directly after the events of Across the Spider-Verse, where Miles was left stranded in an alternate dimension. The new footage places him in immediate danger, under pressure from enemies and cut off from the life he is trying to return to.

That setup matches the larger franchise arc. The first film, Into the Spider-Verse, won the Animated Feature Oscar, and Across the Spider-Verse was also a major success. Together, the two earlier films have grossed $1. 08 billion.

For now, Sony is keeping the focus on the tone and scale of Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse, with the CinemaCon footage presented as a first look at the final chapter of Miles’ story. With the release date still set for June 18, 2027, the next major update will likely come as Sony continues to shape the film’s rollout toward Spider-man: Beyond The Spider-verse.
