sombr has released “Potential, ” a new single paired with a cinematic video, after teasing the song last weekend at Coachella. The track arrives with a personal lyric about a lost relationship and a breakup that left a mark. sombr also added new dates to the upcoming You Are the Reason Tour, with extra stops in Colorado and New York.
“Potential” arrives with a cinematic video
The single was written by sombr and is framed as an expressive look at an improbable relationship that has ended badly. In the song, sombr sings, “It was a difficult break up/ But I wrote some songs that got me famous/ Sometimes I think about what it costs/ You were the last one that I could trust. ”
The video was directed by Gus Black and features Madeline Argy and Gavin Casalegno. It shows sombr performing while dancing ballerinas move around him, with the performance cut against a Bonnie and Clyde-like heist storyline. sombr called the new single and video “potentially” the best yet in a post shared after release.
Sombr adds more tour dates
Alongside “Potential, ” sombr announced additional dates for the You Are the Reason Tour, which is set to hit North America this fall. A second show has been added at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado in July, and a second stop has been added at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The tour is scheduled to wrap on Nov. 24 in New York. Select dates will feature support from Interpol, The Last Dinner Party, Tom Odell, Dove Cameron, Balu Brigada, King Princess, The Hellp, and Hannah Jadagu. General on-sale begins Friday, April 17 at 10 a. m. local time.
Coachella remains part of the rollout
“Potential” was first teased last weekend at Coachella, where sombr helped build anticipation around the release. This week, sombr is set to return to Coachella for the festival’s second weekend.
Last weekend, sombr also brought Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins on stage for performances of “Speed” and “1979. ” That appearance helped underline how closely this release cycle has been tied to live moments as well as the new single. For sombr, “Potential” now sits at the center of a run that links Coachella, the new video, and the next leg of the You Are the Reason Tour.
