Moomba 2026: Jetstar’s First Direct Christchurch–Perth Service Adds 30,000 Seats

Jetstar will launch a seasonal nonstop Christchurch–Perth service from October 27, adding capacity as moomba 2026 approaches. The three-times-a-week route runs through March next year and will add more than 30, 000 seats, using Perth-based Airbus A321LR long‑range jets. Updated 10: 00 AM ET on March 8, 2026.
Key route facts and schedule
Flights will operate from October 27 to March next year on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will add an estimated 30, 000 seats for the Southern Hemisphere summer season. Perth-to-Christchurch sectors take about six hours and 10 minutes gate to gate; return sectors from Christchurch take about seven hours and 15 minutes. All seats on the service will be in economy class and the operation will use Jetstar’s Perth-based Airbus A321LR aircraft, part of a fleet that began deliveries in 2022.
Moomba 2026 and connections from Perth
Christchurch Airport said the Perth link could make Perth a useful onward option for travellers, feeding connections to destinations such as Bali, Delhi, Johannesburg, London, Paris or Rome on partner networks. The timing of departures from Christchurch and Perth is designed to link into wider flows: Christchurch departures are scheduled to leave at 8: 15 PM local time and arrive at about 10: 30 PM in Western Australia; return flights will leave Perth at 7: 45 AM and arrive at 6: 55 PM New Zealand time. Flights will use Jetstar’s long-range narrowbody capability to re-establish a nonstop link previously shelved on the route.
Reactions, aircraft features and what’s next
Jetstar chief executive Stephanie Tully said the airline had detected strong demand for low‑fares travel on both sides of the Tasman. Christchurch Airport stated that “Australia is now fully recovered to pre-Covid travel levels and remains the airport’s largest and most resilient international market, highlighting the importance of continuing to expand choice and capacity. ” Jetstar noted the A321LRs bring onboard improvements: “These quieter aircraft have lifted the bar for low-fares comfort with larger overhead storage compartments, seat back device holders, and in-seat charging. “
Operationally, the route will provide a direct option that had been absent since the earlier seasonal services ended in 2019. The service will run seasonally through March, and Jetstar will route the flights on the carrier’s all-economy A321LR configuration. The airline projects the new sectors will bolster Christchurch’s international connectivity and provide travellers with alternative single-stop or direct connections through Perth.
What’s next: bookings and network integration are the immediate focus, with the seasonal schedule running from October 27 into March next year and capacity decisions to be monitored over the coming months. The launch will be watched for demand trends and how the service links into wider connections out of Perth — a detail of interest to travellers planning trips around moomba 2026.
