She finished ahead of Loice Chemnung, who took second in 2: 19: 35, and Mary Ngugi-Cooper, who was third in 2: 20: 07.
Mercy Chelangat completed an all-Kenyan top four. Jess McClain was the top American in fifth place in 2: 20: 49, posting the fastest time ever by a U. S. woman in the Boston race’s history. McClain said the result felt especially meaningful after her recent half marathon setback, when she and three others followed a guide vehicle on the wrong turn at the U. S. half marathon championships.
Korir Breaks Through In The Men’s Race
Korir made his move as the men’s field headed into Heartbreak Hill in Newton, then opened a 40-second lead before finishing in 2: 01: 52. The time beat the previous Boston course record of 2: 03: 02 set by Geoffrey Mutai in 2011 and made Korir the owner of the fifth-fastest marathon time of all time.
Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania finished 55 seconds behind Korir, with 2021 champion Benson Kipruto three seconds further back. Zouhair Talbi was fifth in 2: 03: 45. Korir’s victory also kept the men’s title in Kenyan hands for another year and came with a bonus for the course record.
What The Results Mean For Boston
